The National Gallery of Australia will host Renaissance – 15th and 16th Century Italian Paintings from the Accademia Carrara, Bergamo from 9 December 2011 until 9 April 2012.
Renaissance offers Australians a once-in-a-lifetimes opportunity to encounter paintings by great Italian artists such as Raphael, Botticelli, Titian and Bellini and highlights the amazing art of Early and High Renaissance. Over seventy works, made between 1400 and 1600 by painters in Northern and Central Italy will be on display. Visitors will discover touching depictions of the Madonna and Child, dramatic lives of the saints and Bible stories, and insightful portraits.
The Accademia Carrara in Bergamo is closed for renovation, allowing Australians to view these treasures, in Canberra only.
